FAQs
Whether you’re curious about the Santa Fe Storm Volleyball Club (SFSVC) organization, programs, or anything else, we’re here to help! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out to us directly at sfstormvbc@gmail.com
Preseason
Tryouts are generally held between September or October depending on facility availability. Tryout information is posted on the SFSVC website and affiliated social media accounts.
Our tryout process is designed to evaluate each participant's skills, teamwork, and potential fit within a SFS team. Here’s what to expect:
- Registration: Participants will register in advance and receive information about the tryout schedule and requirements.
- Tryout Evaluation: During tryouts, all participants will demonstrate their skills through various drills and activities. This helps our coaching staff assess individual abilities. Participants will be divided into smaller groups to engage in team drills. This allows coaches to observe how players interact, communicate, and work together.
- Feedback and Cuts: After the tryout sessions, our coaching staff will review performances and make decisions based on skill level, attitude, and team fit. Unfortunately, due to the number of participants and limited roster spots, cuts will be necessary.
- Announcement: After Makeup tryouts are conducted selected players will be notified via LEAGUEAPPS email.
First team selections will be announced, then second team selections, if applicable. If your player didn't make a team a non selection LEAGUEAPPS email will be sent after team selections have been finalized
We appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication during the tryouts and look forward to building a strong team!
Generally, athletes and parents can expect to see up to 2 teams per age group with 10-12 players per team. However, this can vary based on the number of available resources (i.e., facilities, coaches, etc.).
Due to the high costs associated with facility rentals, limited availability, and the need for a thorough evaluation process, we are unable to guarantee makeup tryout dates. We appreciate your understanding and encourage all participants to attend the scheduled tryouts to ensure fair assessments for everyone.
In-Season
Practices run from December through April, lasting 1.5 to 2 hours each within the time frame of 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Younger age groups typically practice earlier in that time frame, but specific scheduling depends on the coach's and facility's availability. The days vary by team, but generally, practices are held 2 to 3 times a week on weekdays.
Yes - SFS begins practices in early December in preparation for tournaments starting as early as December and January.
We ask that girls avoid missing practices during breaks, as attendance is crucial for team bonding and growth during the early stages of the season.
Practices are held at various sites across Santa Fe including several different Santa Fe Public School (SFPS) gyms, Fort Marcy, and New Mexico School for the Deaf. Santa Fe Storm does not own a practice facility.
Once teams are established, coaches will communicate practice schedules and locations to their respective teams.
If Santa Fe Public Schools close Santa Fe schools due to weather conditions, such as snow, we will also cancel practices and activities in alignment with that decision. Our athletes' safety is our priority!
Athletes should expect to participate in 2 to 3 tournaments each month, typically held on weekends. The most common format is a 2-day tournament, with pool play on Saturday and bracket play on Sunday.
Santa Fe Storm also participates in several Stay & Play tournaments, which are out of state and last 3 days. These tournaments consist of pool play on the first two days and bracket play on the third day.
Additionally, coaches may choose to enter 1-day tournaments that take place in Albuquerque.
The cost starting from $1,650 (11U), $2,000 (12U), $2,400 (13U-15U), $2,800 (16U-18U), depending on the team rank and selected tournaments. Please note that this amount does not include travel expenses.
Santa Fe Storm is proud to offer financial assistance for those in need. For more information, please contact us.
We encourage our athletes to multi-sport, however, your respective school may have different expectations. Please work with your school to understand these rules and expectations.
The New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) prohibits participating in a school activity while participating in the same activity in a club.
